Fall is also the perfect time to do some much needed maintenance on your home. Here is a Fall home maintenance checklist with 10 tips to get your house into tip-top shape this Autumn.
- Clean the Gutters - a clogged gutter can cause many different problems such as foundation damage, structural problems, flooding, and mold issues. Be sure to clean your gutters before and after the trees lose their leaves for the season.
- Keep Your Property Clear of Leaves - upgrade your curb appeal by keeping your yard free of leaves all throughout the Fall season. By doing this, you are also keeping your lawn free from suffocation and fungus build-up.
- Secure Your Walkways - check for any cracks or major issues with your walkways and make all repairs necessary before the winter season begins.
- Clean and Store Lawn Equipment - make sure your lawn equipment is cleaned and put away before the weather gets too cold to do so. Disconnect water hoses from faucets, clean your grill and use a cover to protect it, and use a fuel stabilizer on your mower.
- Get Your Roof Inspected - at the start of the Fall season, it is always a good idea to have your roof inspected. The inspector should check for leaks, missing shingles, caulking issues, rust, and properly working vents.
- Move Paint into the House - cold temperatures can freeze paint and caulk, making them unable to be used. Bring all paint and other liquid supplies into the house at the start of the Fall season.
- Seal Up Air Leaks - look around your house and at the foundation for any air leaks. Air could potentially be leaking from window frames, door frames, trim, siding, and anywhere near a pipe or wiring. Sealing up these leaks will save you money on energy costs.
- Winterize Your Sprinkler System - you can do this on your own with a compressor or hire a professional to make sure the job gets done correctly.
- Make Sure Your Furnace is Working - Before you must break out the parkas and winter hats, make sure your furnace is working properly. Change out the filter and consider hiring a professional to do an inspection before the winter weather begins.
- Check Your Water Heater - having a properly working water heater is very important during the Fall and Winter months. The last thing you want to do is deal with frozen or burst pipes during the coldest time of the year. Schedule a seasonal maintenance with your plumber to ensure your water heater is working the way it should be.
